2016 Nissan Maxima: Official Specs and Pictures

A completely new car, the 2016 Maxima got its public debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show

The 2016 Nissan Maxima large sedan has been revealed at the 2015 New York Auto Show. It’s a new generation, ditching the old model’s styling for a more aggressive exterior design with a muscular profile and a striking front-end dubbed “V-Motion”.

Inside, the new Maxima has seating for up to five people in optionally available leather seats. Standard kit includes an 8.0-inch color touchscreen sitting atop a simplified center console, and a 7.0-inch color display in the instrument cluster, where it sits between two conventional dials. Also, the NissanConnectSM infotainment system comes as standard with GPS navigation, SiriusXM Radio, and online Google search.

On the safety side, the 2016 Nissan Maxima offers a respectable array of tech, from the Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) to the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (CTA).

There are five trim levels available – S, SV, SL, SR and Platinum – and all of them get a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a new Xtronic CVT gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. Nissan describes the new Maxima as a “4 Door Sports Car”, underlining the total output of 300 horsepower and the “performance-oriented” transmission mounted on a lighter, more rigid chassis.

Of course, the old Maxima also had a 3.5-liter engine, but for this new model it has been re-engineered to make 10 extra horsepower and be more efficient, with an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon.

Prices start at $32,410 MSRP for the base model, but it’s not yet decided when the 2016 Nissan Maxima will arrive in showrooms across the United States.
