Says it’s a properly sorted lightweight sports car

Alpine A110 is the first vehicle made under the reborn Alpine brand and according to its first review in English, it’s really rather good.

It’s the kind of frisky, agile sports car that will make the driving enthusiast go “Oh là là!” upon approaching the first corner. The Autocar reviewer is really rather excited behind the wheel of the A110 which he drives on both road and track.

On track he tries it with the electronic aids switched off and this results in a very playful back end, yet one which is not intimidating to keep in check. Yes, the car slides a lot, especially in lower grip conditions, but apparently it is fairly easy and rewarding to rein in.

As an enthusiast proposition, the A110 (check out its full specs here) has no apparent downsides, other than its slightly steep price and the flimsy nature of some interior trim bits. The Porsche 718 Cayman benchmark is still noticeably better in terms of steering, fit and finish and especially the gearbox (both the PDK and the fact it still offers a stick), although as an overall package the Alpine runs it a very close second.
