Beat this, Dubai! Isle of Man police adds BAC Mono to its fleet

Meet the world’s first BAC Mono police car

The world's first BAC Mono police car is here, and it's not the city of Dubai that has bought it, as you might expect.

The first BAC Mono police car belongs to the Isle of Man, the tiny British island famous for its crazy Tourist Trophy (TT) motorcycle race, the lack of an overriding speed limit, low taxes, and offshore banking.

The street-legal single seater has been offered to the Isle of Man by Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), who has a long-standing partnership with the island. The manufacturer hosts annual Mono Experience Weekends on the island with its customers and has used the Isle of Man as its playground since the Mono launched in 2011, using the stunning driving roads to fine-tune the supercar's behavior.

The BAC Mono supercar will become an active member of the Isle of Man police force's fleet, and will also be on show at local festivals to encourage safe and responsible driving. It will be driven by Andy Greaves, who is an advanced driver, police motorcyclist and collision investigator.

While the Isle of Man lacks an overriding speed restriction, there are still local speed limits that need to be enforced, as well as reckless driving that needs to be penalized, so the Mono will have plenty of things to do, besides acting as the local police's flagship car.

The Mono police car features the Isle of Man's official police livery and the same powertrain as the production car. That's a 305 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder Mountune engine, which allows the 580-kg (1,279-lb) car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds. Good luck trying to escape that, offenders!
