Alfa Romeo adds two new engines to Stelvio lineup, including the first RWD version

It’s not the Quadrifoglio, though

Alfa Romeo now offers a broader engine lineup for the Stelvio, thanks to two newly-introduced entry-level engine options for customers in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa).

The base engine is an all-aluminum 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel rated at 178 hp (180 PS), linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. It's the first engine in the Stelvio range to be combined with rear-wheel drive, and Alfa Romeo says that "guarantees superior performance levels, loads of fun and a thrilling drive."

Producing a maximum torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at 1,750 rpm the engine allows the Stelvio to reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph) and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.6 seconds.

At the same time, the Stelvio equipped with this engine is the most economical yet, with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 124 g/km. In this configuration, the Stelvio tips the scales at 1,604 kg (3,536 lb), which Alfa claims it's a best-in-class number.

In some markets, the Stelvio can also be ordered with an all-aluminum 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to the same eight-speed auto and the Q4 all-wheel-drive system.

The turbo-four is rated at 197 hp (200 PS) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) at 1,750 rpm, resulting in slightly improved performance figures. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 7.2 seconds and top speed is 215 km/h (134 mph).

The new engines increase the Stelvio lineup, which already includes the 276 hp (280 PS) 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit and 207 hp (210 PS) 2.2 turbodiesel, both combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive. A high-performance Quadrifoglio version will arrive later.

Besides the new engines, the Stelvio is available with a fresh chocolate interior color and a sporty interior which offers aluminum inserts, black lining, leather steering wheel, and heated leather sports seats with 6-way front power bolster and driver memory.
