800 Nm Alpina D5 S claims fastest diesel on the market title

You know what kind of cars make that amount of twist? Supercars

Frankfurt 2017 is not just about new cars and concepts, as it also attracts brands such as Alpina. We’re sure they don’t need an introduction among BMW lovers, but their D5 S surely deserves one.

Aiming for the fastest diesel on the market status is no easy task. But the new Alpina D5 S has an ace up its, well, hood: a 3-liter straight-six diesel strapped with three turbochargers and common rail direct injection.

Depending on what body style you’re looking at, getting the new Alpina D5 S will see you pay at least €87,900 for the sedan and €90,400 for the wagon.

Alpina says the powerplant generates 382 hp and a hip-fracturing 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque laid out between 1,750 adnd 2,650 rpm. Also making similar amounts of twist are the likes of Dodge Viper GTC and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG 003 in Stradale guise.

Bigger picture aside, Alpina’s new D5 S takes power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox thus enabling a sprint time of 4.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph). Top speed sits at 286 km/h (178 mph).

Optionally, customers can request the Sport Plus suspension package that brings rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilization.

And since we wandered into diesel territory, check out the 2018 Ram 3500 HD – a pickup truck that can tow your house.
